Glittering opening for elite event |
|
The stage is set for the one of the world’s best known jewellery trade and marketing event, the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, which opens today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This event is one of the top three jewellery shows in the world. It celebrates its 30th edition in 2013 with a record-breaking number of 3,300 exhibitors from 49 countries and regions, including participation from three new countries: Cyprs, Lebanon and Peru. The exhibitors are presenting a glittering selection of all kinds of jewellery as well as loose diamonds, pearls and gemstones.

- Seminar on Market Trends of Coloured Gemstone and Coloured Diamond
A seminar this afternoon looks at market trends for coloured gemstones and diamonds. Wilson Yuen, President of the International Colored Gemstone Association, will talk about market trends from colored gemstones, while John King, Chief Quality Officer, GIA Laboratory, will share the changing demand for coloured diamonds.
- Design Showcase
Jewellery design at its finest is central to the fair. Throughout the show, visitors will be able to view the finalists and winners of three major design competitions: the 14th Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition and the South Sea Pearl Jewellery Design Competition, both at the Display Area, Hall 1E Concourse, and the International Jewellery Design Excellence Award, at the Display Area, Hall 1C Entrance.

Media were given a rundown of the many highlights and opportunities on offer at the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show at a press conference held on 25 February. The briefing included an overview of developments in the jewellery industry and forecasts for the season ahead. The results of the Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition, which showcases the best in local talent, were announced. This year’s competition took as its theme “Glitter in Motion”, and awards were presented in the two categories: Open Group and Student Group. Models showcased the winning pieces during the press briefing.
