Meet the Press |
At a press conference held on 18 February, the media were briefed on developments in the jewellery industry. The results of the 10th Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition were also announced at the briefing.
Gem of a Show |
We strive to make the fair experience as comfortable and productive for visitors as possible. This year sees the debut of the Hall of Fame, which offers the perfect showcase for 26 of the prestigious international brand names renowned for high-quality jewellery collections from Hong Kong, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Monoco, Spain, Thailand,Turkey and UAE. In addition, Les Salons Privˆms, which offers a secluded area for companies specialising in fine pieces, not only features the specialist diamond sector, created in 2008, but a new section for 2009 specialising in South Sea pearls. Also new in 2009 is the Treasury of Carving Zone, it is a show window for carved exhibits of precious materials including jadeite, gold and gemstones.
Returning Old Favourites |
Other returning zones include Treasures of Nature Zone for loose diamonds, precious gems and pearls; Le Salon Extraordinaire, presenting precious set jewellery; Designer Jewellery Galleria for design-led collections; Antique & Vintage Renaissance; Jadeite Zone; and the ever-popular Watch & Clock Pavilion.
Champion of Champions |
A new dimension is added to the 2009 edition with a prestigious international design award - the International Jewellery Design Excellence (IJDE) Award 2009. The award showcases the "best of the best", being open only to top prize winners at other international jewellery design competitions. The IJDE Award 2009 has received 170 entries from 27 participating countries & regions. To mark the importance and authorisation of the competition, we are proud to have invited nine internationally renowned industry leaders and experts to form a heavy-weighted judging panel. Please do take the opportunity to view the winning entries at the Hall 1 Oasis area.
There is plenty more going on throughout the five days of the show. Two auctions are taking place: the 41st Paspaley Pearl Auction and the 44th Robert Wan Tahiti Perles Auction. A series of parades are featured, each one showcasing the exhibits of a different zone - these add glamour to the fair as well as offering plenty of inspiration. A seminar addressing the topic of jewellery valuation & investment value and a briefing on European retail market for jewellery, watches and precious stones have been organised, as well as a presentation by top-class international jewellery design master Mr Wallace Chan.
