| VIPs welcome dazzling new fair |
|
In the opening ceremony graced by the presence of Gregory So Kam-leung, GBS, JP, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR Government, key jewellery industry figures welcomed the advent of a dedicated new event – the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show.
With its complementary show, the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show opening tomorrow, the fair represents one of the best opportunities for the global jewellery industry to meet trade and advance the interests of the industry as a whole.

 The HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show has generated positive responses. The atmosphere has been relatively busy so far for this inaugural fair at Asiaworld-Expo. We have met with many visitors, mainly existing customers, in the first day of exhibition. We expect to find new customers also particularly buyers from Chinese mainland and Southeast Asian countries like Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia. The fair provides a great platform for us to raise our company profile and promote our loose stones to customers worldwide. We also receive orders for existing stocks available during the fair. The exhibition’s logistics arrangements have been excellent and Hong Kong is just a perfect place to do business with efficient customs clearance and visa free access for most international traders. We are satisfied with the results.”

Buyers from Lucrative Markets |
| To generate more business opportunities, the fair organiser has put together over 100 buying missions from more than 7,000 companies representing over 8,700 buyers from 76 countries and regions to come to the show. |
|
 “KYRA is a manufacturer of jewellery and diamonds as well as a distributor of gold bars. We are one of the top online jewellery retailers in Dubai and operate two physical stores. I am here looking for larger-sized diamonds and sourcing colour stones for a new kids’ bracelet collection we are going to launch. This is a good show. The seminar I attended today has been very informative and interesting. I have found two suppliers from Chinese mainland and Taiwan for colour stones. In the first day of my visit, I’ve already bought two diamonds worth about US$10,000 in total. Negotiation is underway with a USA exhibitor for the purchase of a 10.27-carat pear-shaped diamond that will cost about US$130,000. I expect to finalise the deal soon. Excluding that particular diamond, I will spend another US$60,000 to US$75,000 for other stones during the exhibition.”

 “With a business history of 90 years, Sonderegger is a goldsmith and jewellery retailer in Switzerland. We are running four retail stores including two outlets in Bern, one in Murten and the other in Mürren. Sonderegger also works in partnership with watch brands to provide jewellery watches. I am visiting the Hong Kong fair to enrich our collections. So far, I’ve spent US$35,000 for some appealing pearls, diamonds and stone chains with 10 different exhibitors in the first day. I am confident that more interesting pieces will be identified and expect to thrash out a total of US$75,000 or more for my sourcing here. This is an excellent fair providing a comprehensive range of pearls, diamonds and stones to choose from, and they are available at different prices for different market segments. I can find something really special from all the exhibits at very good prices.”
