We operate 15 retail chain stores in and around the city of Nizhny Novgorod in Russia. We sell all kinds of jewellery targeting the middle range of the market; we manufacture a little ourselves but mainly buy in. Most jewellery retailers in our area sell items made in Russia, but we decided to start sourcing from overseas, which is why we are making our first visit to this fair this year. Silver items are particularly suitable for our market and we’ve seen some very interesting products here. We are mainly gathering information and making contacts and will follow up after the fair, but we have already decided to place an order with one company that we met through the show’s Business Matching Service– we just have to complete the negotiations. We’ve been impressed with the Chinese mainland manufacturers – they have designs that are different from Russian companies. Compared with jewellery trade shows in Russia, this one is good because it is truly international with suppliers from many different countries – plus the service here is nice.
Andrey Parshin, Creative Director, Agates, Russia
This is my second visit to this show – I am an importer and wholesaler of cufflinks and bridal jewellery based in Hungary. At this event you can meet many suppliers all concentrated in one place and you can see the new trends in the business. I’ve already found several interesting items and I also note that micro setting seems to be a big direction this year. As well as searching for new suppliers and new designs I take the opportunity to check on my existing suppliers. Coming here to Hong Kong is also convenient because I can undertake factory visits in the Chinese mainland, too. It’s great show!

Israel is one of the world’s leading centres for the manufacture and trade in polished diamonds and a major hub for trade in rough diamonds. IDI’s main objective is to promote the Israeli diamond industry through participation in shows and other activities as well as research into new markets. We have 70 companies exhibiting under the IDI umbrella and another 30 Israeli companies showing independently here. The US remains our biggest market, with almost 40% share, but the markets of India and the Chinese mainland are becoming increasingly important. We see Hong Kong as the main gateway to the mainland. This show attracts good buyers. HKTDC is a great organisation – staff respond quickly to enquiries, for example, and we are also impressed with the emphasis on new technology. We are very satisfied; in fact, we feel like we are a partner with HKTDC.
Nissim Palomo, CMO, Israel Diamond Institute, Israel
GIA has been in Hong Kong since 1994 and we’ve been attending this show since 1995. In 2010 we began offering on-site services to exhibitors and visitors. We also utilise the fair to promote our various educational programmes. Our services have been well received and many buyers have availed themselves of our testing already this year, especially those from the region. In fact, we received a lot of coloured stones for testing before the fair, with buyers coming to pick them up early on the first morning. This is a good fair because Hong Kong is a centre for gem trading and visitors come from all over the world, but particularly from the Chinese mainland. We’ve also noticed a lot of buyers from Russia this year. The timing of this particular show is good because it occurs before the shows in Europe. The organiser does a great job – we appreciate how all the lab services providers are grouped together in the centre, so it is easy for all exhibitors and buyers to locate us.
Seung-Hae Moon, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, GIA Hong Kong Laboratory Limited, Hong Kong
